Can you post a detailed review of those tires? How is the handling, acceleration, cornering and fuel economy? Michelin H-rated - very good pick. I am thinking about getting Michelin Primacy MXM4s. If I lived in IL or WI, I would definitely get winter tires. Our stock Proxes is very slippery when it rains or snows.
I just put them on yesterday morning and drove to work 75 miles commute both ways. Not much driving in the snow, but my first impression is that the car feels quicker a bit (lighter wheel tire combo?) also the ride feels softer vs stock ecopias. Cornering is great I think, steering feels lighter, but I also noticed that it feels somewhat less precise vs stock tires. Those michelins are pretty quiet for a winter tires. It supposed to snow over the weekend here in chicagoland area so more testing to come :)
So far I like em a lot, and I would definitely recommend those tires.

I have those Michelin x-ice3 tires as well - my 2nd winter with them. My thoughts on the tires are pretty much the same as the above.

Using 205/55/R16 size tires.
I bought some OEM mud flaps but when I was installing them they looked strange to me with the body kit on. So I took them down to a body shop and had them painted. Can't wait to get them installed now. :)

Those look really nice... How much did the body shop charge for this type of work?

$200 as they had to be prepped before paint could even be applied and so that it would stick to the plastic. After several coats of paint several coats of clear coat were applied. They did a great job.

I installed lighter wheels. I looked for a simple clean design as close to OEM as possible. Maxxim Winner was cheapest available, around $80 on Amazon. Each wheel is around 17 lbs compared to 25 lbs OEM wheel. I noticed better acceleration, better turning, easier/lighter ride over potholes. 17x7 +40 size. I kept my W-rated Toyo Proxes.

How much did you pay for the set of 4 rims? Did you get them online or at a shop in your area?

Not yet, been busy with work and temps have been really hot for the past 10 days. Hoping to get them on this weekend.

I've been looking for a lighter set too. I'll use my OEM wheels for my winter tires that I have in a 205/50R17. I've been looking at a 17x8 though so the 225/45R17 tire is a better fit with the wheel. I have the same tire/wheel size on my 2009 Corolla S Turbo and it works great.

My original message has the answers. I paid $80 per wheel on Amazon ($320 total). They were installed at a local shop in Maryland.

What is the benefit of wider wheels with the same size tires? My understand was that extra width would make wheels heavier. Stock size is 17x7

I missed that, thank you for replying with the answer anyway!

The 225/45R17 tire is closer to the same width as an 8" wide wheel. The tire sits better in the wheel and can corner better. The wider wheel will also fill the fender well better and look better to the eye. I have 17x8 wheels on my 2009 Corolla S Turbo and they only weigh 17 lbs each, much less then the 25 lb stock 17x7 wheels. I'll use the OEM 17x7 wheels for my 205/50R17 winter tires as they will be a perfect fit for that tire width. :D

Contrary to my expectations, my fuel economy is actually worse now after I installed lighter wheels. I lost around 2 MPGs on average. My car feels amazing, acceleration, braking and general ride improved, but it looks like rotational mass is useful for better mileage.

I installed TSW Sprint wheels a few days ago. They are 17x8, around 19 lbs each. I love the looks, but I hate their performance. They feel bulky and heavy. Steering is now vague and slow. Maxxim Winner wheels were way better, lighter and quicker with steering. In addition, these TSW wheels were a pain in the rear to balance and I have one wheel defective, my car pulls to the right. They feel generally unstable at highway speeds, I will be returning them.
