A production agreement with Mazda will also spawn a new model at Scion. First rumoured to be the next Yaris, Toyota will utilize the Mazda 2 as the basis for a car to replace the xD, also due sometime in 2015. AN says it will have four-doors and a trunk versus the Mazda 2′s hatchback bodystyle. The new Scion model is also rumoured to be powered by Mazda’s 1.5-litre Skyactiv mill.

I have a favorable view of Mazda, and if Toyota/Scion is going to make a car with them then I am interested. I wonder how much the styling will differ from the Mazda. The Corolla-based iM does look pretty close to the Corolla. Will the Mazda2-based Scion be a similar story?

I'm starting to like the idea of this.

Although they already have a compact under Toyota, the Yaris, it's just not sporty enough. Sort of like the Chevrolet Sonic vs Spark. Bringing in a sportier compact under Scion should help bring more younger people to the company.
