Indeed, good space to play with under their.
Anyone planning to jump right in with a custom axle-back rather than waiting for something specific to show up?
I am debating on having that canister resonator removed and keeping just the black rear muffler portion.
Of all the things I would mod on the iM, I think exhaust wouldn't be the first. It just seems like it isn't a very significant change. I'd rather start with tinting windows and if I have the funds different rims.

If you want a cleaner looking rear end then i'd say go for it. At least with the exhaust being black you won't have to worry about it changing color or getting dirty since you won't see any of that.
You can't see anything from the rear of the car other than the tip... I literally had to get my 6'7'' ass laying down flat on the ground to look at everything underneath there. If I get the resonator removed I'll post a video of what it sounds like. Tring to get a crap load of stuff done for a car show on October 16th.

How does your 6'7" body fit if my 6'4" doesn't? I guess it's mostly the side to side leg room for me.

I am 6'7'' 260lb. I have about 4-5 in" of head room. I have my seat ALL the way down, and all the way back. You know the steering wheel is telescoping right? I got it adjusted pretty good 3-4" of clearance for my knees. I shift fine knee doesn't even com close to the steering wheel or door when engaging the clutch pedal. It's almost as roomy as my 1gen XB was.

I too have a gen1 xB and in the iM, the door card and center console seem too close together for my legs to fit comfortably. Maybe I am spoiled from the first gen that doesn't have as much of a center console. Enjoy your iM!
I definitely feel a lot safer in this than I did in the XB... it's slightly more peppy (bigger motor, but bigger curb weight to go with it too). I'm enjoying the **** out of it right now... sometimes I wish I'd held on to my XB but I sold it right at 85,000 miles literally the week it was paid off, and sold it for $8,500. Best resale I've ever gotten off of any car I've ever owned.

Back on topic: Has anyone on here explored any of the Australian Toyota Corolla Levin exhaust options? I know that all of the motor options for the Toyota Auris are different than our USDM iM's, but the Toyota Levin is the same 1.8L motor as ours.

I bet there's way more safety tech in this then there is in the xB due to all the developments that have been going on in the automotive world.

Plus overall Toyota are usually safe, not something i'd be worried about.
On topic: Got the car on a lift today and did a thing...

-So 4 inches behind the O2 sensor in the forward end of the car (you can't see this unless the car is on jacks or a lift) there is a GIGANTIC muffler / post O2 sensor catalytic converter / muffler. literally it is 28 inches long, 7 inches in diameter. There is a 2.5" inlet side and a 2.25" outlet going to the aft end of the car.

-I had this cut out... I made a mistake... My exhaust guy welded in a pipe basically replacing this monster exhaust / catalyst thingy (which if you live anywhere that does emissions is a bad idea... we don't have emissions in VA and this resides in the exhaust AFTER the aft most O2 sensor so it will not throw a check engine code) well, this was a bad idea... the resonator in-front of the rear suspension on the passenger side, and the rear "muffler" (the black one with the chrome tip coming out the back bumper).... yeah, they're useless. The car sounds hideous. So bad I don't want to post a video, but will if anyone is curious. Anyway, I am going to keep the aft end in tact (keep it stock looking) and where the OEM muffler just after that was I am having a magnaflow muffler model #12645 installed in it's place. The car sounds like it has a straight pipe on it right now... I'll be lucky if I don't get an excessive exhaust noise ticket between now and next Monday when the Magnaflow muffler gets here.

- Once the muffler gets put in in-place of the pipe I had welded in I will post a video...

-It's fun learning a new car, and having literally NO manuals or information to go off of.

-Final note... the car sounds like a pissed of pack of farting bumble bees, but just between the TRD panel filer and opening up this portion of the exhaust... my butt dyno says the car is making 12-15 more horsepower to the wheels. 1st - the end of 3rd gear are actually fun. 4th falls flat on its face though...

So you cut out the cat but kept the two stock mufflers on and it sounds like farting bees?

Not "the cat". There are actually 2. The main catalytic converter is part of the OEM header. That is still in place.

What I had removed is not in the pictures you had posted at the beginning of this thread.

If you replace just the muffler / resonator that are in that picture you posted at the beginning of the thread, or even cut them completely out the car would still be quiet as a mouse and have a huge amount of back pressure.
This is what was removed...

It resides here:

Just removing this made the car sound like this:

So I'll be having this installed in it's place (where currently just a 2.25" pipe is) to quiet it the f**k down a bit:

Yes that's what I was referring to. Is that the 2nd cat or just a resonator? Is it welded on and that's why you had to cut it off?
It is a muffler. There is a screen inside of it that looks like there may be a small secondary cat, but it'd have to be cut open to tell for sure. The primary cat just below the header is attached to this same piping, there is a bolt flange directly behind this piece though (an after market header would be about 4-5 feet long). There was no way to completely remove this piece without cutting it off.
Glad you like to experiment LOL! But anyway's yeah that's like the scuba tank on the 2nd gen XB . I put the bolt on Borla dual exhaust which just deletes the stock muffler and is just 2 pipes and the dang thing was still silent. Sounded a lil better with strup header but that big tank keeps it quite for sure.

How heavy is it? A cat that size would be at least 15 lbs, a muffler just a few lbs.

In that case someone should just make a side exit exhaust for the iM.
