Scion is releasing a special edition tC, the Scion tC Release Series 9.0.

The Scion tC Release Series 9.0 is a black and orange tC that costs$23,190 in its manual form, and $24,340 for the automatic.

The design comes in collaboration with Cartel Customs. This special edition tC comes with a special set of glossy black rims, matching mirror casings and door handles, blackened badges, a high-profile roof spoiler, and center exhaust. The interior has a Cartel logo push start button, orange seatbelts and stitching as well as special floor and cargo mats.

There is also a TRD lowering suspension kit. As far as the engine goes, it's still the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder pushing 179 hp and 172 lb-ft to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic and manual gearbox.

instead of the endless parade of special editions, it would be nice if they invested the time, effort and cash into... you know... new cars...

I like the special editions but I agree with you. If they put in the same effort to a regular model as they did to the special editions then they could really take a step forward.

Agreed, the SE's are cool...but by the time you get to series 9 someone should of started asking a different question... :D
Now just imagine the outcome they would have from focusing on a strong model :D

But at least now they seem to have that better mindset going on
I think that this comes down again to Scion better defining what it actually is as a brand. It could go more performance, or more entry level luxury or more budget brand. Asking them to focus on developing a model instead of doing special editions feels to me like we are saying they should do more performance or entry level luxury. instead of making a special edition, just make a regular edition that is somewhere in between what Scion makes now and what this Special Edition is.

Fair point, Scion doesn't get to decide what models it gets, Toyota HQ decides, tells Toyota NA...
Maybe it's time to have scion be a brand of it's own, let them work their own magic.
I'd like to be a fly on the wall at a Scion exec meeting. I do wonder what they say about business strategy and brand development when no one else is listening.

Scion doesn't have Execs, its not like Lexus as a fully vested division, its a sub brand of Toyota and falls under the jurisdiction of Toyota NA...
That's why i agree with patrick about giving scion more freedom
I mean there must be someone who is in charge of the brand even if they get marching orders and final approval from higher ups.

Of course, it's not like this is some play pen where they let all piggies run free and play in the mud. there is preparation, order, etc.
