Scion announces the iA as the brand's first sedan

Scion is preparing to launch its first ever sedan, and that sedan will be called the Scion iA. This new model will be debuting at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

The iA will be based on the Mazda2 sedan and it will use the same 1.5-liter four-cylinder SkyActiv engine in the 2016 Mazda 2.

In Canada the iA will be sold as a Toyota Yaris Sedan.

Excited to see this as I have been looking at manual Mazda 3 or 6 to replace my gen1 xB. Two weeks for the preview.
I think this model could be a great addition to the Scion lineup. I can see the Mazda2 turning into a really nice Scion. It just makes sense to me. Too bad it won't get a more sporty engine though.
liking the little hint to Lexus' spindle grille all while not trying too hard and not taking anything away from Lexus...in the process staying uniquely Scion

problem is the sedan isn't as good as the hatchback...looks wise... and Mazda wont be selling the sedan here... which then brings us to cost...

If mazda is 'lending' the 2 to scion to be the iA its guaranteed scion can't undercut Mazda on price...which means the prettier car will be cheaper...

but then again, Toyota stores have more traffic.. this will be interesting to watch

Interesting to watch indeed, how the iA picks up in sales and maintains it over time compared to the 2 sedan will be interesting. As we get to see more of the iA, seeing how good/bad it looks will act as a slight influential factor
Scion can use the Toyota dealership network to sell wider geographically than Mazda, but it will still be interesting to see how things play out. Competing with the Mazda2 is a difficult task when you are selling the same thing for more expensive.

I didn't realize that Mazda wasn't selling the Mazda2 sedan in North America. Is that because of this deal with Scion, or was that already decided before hand? Can we even know that?
