LED light upgrade update!

Well, I have been getting some mods done to my new iM. I got the basics already...tint, stereo upgrade, interior detailing and adding fog lights. Now comes the fine tuning of things. The halogen headlights were okay, but they just did not match the LED running lights and were fairly weak, so I upgraded them to LED. Much better. The fog lights worked decently, but the light was pretty yellow and were kinda weak as well, so I upgraded them yesterday to LED's too. The light output is better and I have a bit more vision from them as well. Best of all, they match the headlights now!

Now to add LED's to the brake, reverse and license plate lights! :)

Hope you don't get busted.
Why do you feel the need to crap on every LED thread? If you don't like them, don't put them on. I'm a big boy, and I can handle whenever I do. The door is right over there. Don't forget to shut it on your way out of the thread.

How old are you exactly? Grown ups tend to listen to words of wisdom. I see what you did here. You installed LEDs into halogen projectors. That's bad, but it MAY work. However, then you installed fog lights on the car that does not even have them as an option in the U.S. What is worse? You installed LEDs into them. You installed LEDs into halogen reflectors, the WORST possible action anyone can do. I guarantee your fog lights blind oncoming traffic. Keep thinking it's funny until someone gets blinded and hits a tree.

You did that after numerous posts up here from me and Dave explaining both legal and hardware issues with such install.

Then just as a spoiled kid you tell anyone who disagrees with you to get out.

Something I do as an adult: I finish the job I had started or I don't start. I am not going to rip my air filter off, I will just install CAI later. If I decide to upgrade my headlights, I will get a retrofit. Job half done or half finished is an un-finished job. Keep that in mind.

Can't say anything regarding the headlights, I'm about to do LEDs in mine but compare the two beams to see how the LEDs project in these housings. I'll share my results. BUT. Why do you have a problem with LED fog lights? Sure the fog lights were not on a US spec car, however I don't know of any laws against adding fog lights especially since Toyota does produce this car with them in other markets. An aftermarket exhaust system is farrrr more illegal. Also having LED fogs won't blind people.... they are too low to do that. The beam does not project that far upwards unless you have the housings way out of alignment. If your going to be a "YOUR BREAKING THE RULES" guy, you should be on the exhaust pages screaming about emissions, or the suspension pages yelling about changed driving dynamics not originally designed for the car.

Actually, I have driven quite a few night hours with them on, both on interstates and two-lane country roads and not one car has even flashed their lights at me, so...yeah.

Legal aspects can take a leap. Cops around here give two shits less. There have been zero hardware issues, as I have taken care to get items that work right out of the box.

Then just as a spoiled kid you tell anyone who disagrees with you to get out.
Not really. I just get tired of the same harping. People are going to do this, whether people like you like it or not. Whining every time that someone posts about LED's is old.

The job is finished. They work well and are aimed properly. Thanks, though.

Thank you for a voice of reason in all this. You are 100% correct.

Sorry you feel threatened. I've just seen folks get busted and was honestly hoping you don't get busted for your mod.

Peace

I don't feel threatened at all. Mostly annoyed.

For all in this thread: I have installed my LED lights today. Attached are the before, during, and after photos including beam projection.

According to the paperwork included with the LED bulbs, adjustments to the beam angle can be made directly to the bulb and instructions on how to do so are included. Apparently they did not need adjustment after install as the beam was pretty much exactly the same - see photos.

Police will not hassle you about the LED swap as the housings are already projector style housings. If they were mirror style housings then yes it's obvious the bulbs are aftermarket and illegal. Since they are already projectors for all they know LED or HID lights could have been a factory option.

Huge shoutout to superbrightleds.com for a fantastic kit! I ordered their kit yesterday with economy shipping and they arrived tonight!!! The customer service is fantastic and they actually pick up their phones and respond through email in a very timely manner. They also offer a lifetime warranty on their bulbs. Definitely hit them up if you are interested in LED headlights or any other bulb for that matter!

Hi Kingsrow1975,

Your IM LED fog-lights look great, and I too, have a '17 IM. Can you please tell me the manufacturer, and part number for your LED fog's?

I appreciate your time, and look forward to your response.

Link to the exact LED bulbs you bought? That beam pattern is excellent!
