I have been looking into switching out the stock halogen bulbs in my iM for LEDs but I have a couple questions. First, I don't know what color of bulbs to get, I want them to match the DRLs as close as possible so should I go 5000k, 6000k, 7000k or something else? Second, I have heard some people complain about the noise coming from the fans on the LED bulbs, is that a sign of a poor quality bulb or is it a legitimate problem for all LED conversion kits? Lastly, what is Canbus? Some people are saying you need to install one with your LEDs, is it a part, or a brand, is it necessary? Any and all responses will be very helpful, thank you in advance

if youre looking to change the headlights bulbs your best option are the philips crystal vision, but if you want to boost more the output then look for fanless lumileds bulbs in 6000k if you have fog lights or planning to add get both pairs, get some ferrite filters because they will cause radio interference (happened to me).

Hids are ok for projectors but not for the foglights!! and the hids are more complicated to own (ballast, bulbs etc etc) the stock wiring is not designed for hids (happened to me).

So as stated your most secure and hassle free option is philips but if you like the led look like i do get a set of fanless lumileds.

No they dont because the headlights need the rubber cap always on.
i got mine from this seller
New 9006 Fog Lights PHILIPS LED Foglights Conversion Kit 160W 16000LM 6K White | eBay

till now now issues with them (only radio interference),but keep in mind that fanless leds heat up a bit more than fan cooled.
those are 9006 but they fit on 9012 base, just adjust them aligned before installing and tight really well the heatsink.
when ordering leave a note to the seller to not forget adjustment screws and the extra color tubes (light blue and yellow are included) seller accept offers i paid $30 for mine shipped.
not 100% color match when near but if you look at them at maybe 10ft distance you will notice the color is nearly the same as the drl leds.

why do people wanna avoid fanless LEDs? are they loud or something?
you mean fancooled?
because the design of the headlight bezel it will turn it on to a bell! the fan vibration will transfer all over the assembly and believe me after 5 minutes you will want to get rid of them!
corollas in other hand are equiped with non removable leds ,dont know if they are fancooled or not but theres no noise!

i was searching more info about this headlights but theres not much for this car model, can you post more pictures of those philips crystal vision maybe a wall view or angle views? a distant frontal view?
4000k or even 4300k halogen will have a yellowish look??,im looking to try them!
thanks!
Only other ones are these

My nightly drive home is 20 minutes on an unlit freeway and these give me plenty of light.

Is it a perfect match to the DRL, no. But it is closer than the stock ones.

i think ill be ordering a pair soon,im tired if trying different types and brands of leds and still not find the closest to those leds drls, thise leds in the drls are white but i think that the lens has something to do with them because the color projection is different at night and day or angle view so to find an exact matc is going to be bear impossible.
The other option are hids in 5000k but again it depends on the wattage and manufacturer because they vary from one to other with the same issue as leds and adding the risk of fire or damage to oem wiring. For now youre right thats the closest and safest one, diamond vision are 5000k but they are not available for 9012 only in 9006 and they come with the frontal anti glare coat for halogen housings and that reduce output on projectors,9005 dont have anti glare coating may be another option but they are 65w dont know if that can harm the wiring or housing.
the thing with 9012 is the design that is supossed to produce more lumens than a 9006 great for oem but the color is no no!
doesnt make sense a car with led drls and yellow halogens! is like the dodge neon only power windows at front doors!

I stick with the halogens, just for simplicity sake.

And technically, changing your bulb type violates DOT Regulations.

? just tested the 9012 philips and guess what? they are yellow not even single hint of white as the package says! ordered the h11 to make a complete set and the h11 are different shade more likely the china blue coated halogens so it makes no sense to test them, so that video i found and every single picture on the net it just a scam. oem is on pass side and the crystal vision on the drivers side!
the only white part is the word on the package!
so this ones failed! going back to oem until foound another option!

I'm pretty happy with my led kit.
I've been using it for 3 months already without any issues.
The color looks great!
It may be not as bright as HIDs, but It is bright enough for me.
The kit is not silent however, the fan makes a bit noise which is only noticeable at idle.
Overall I'm more than happy with the kit and if it ever goes bad I will buy another one.
