Now known as the Toyota Corolla iM, the sporty little hatchback was modified for rally racing and it managed to take third place in a Minnesota rally.
The Corolla iM first debuted onto the dirt racing scene in June at the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally and it ran on stock parts only. That race gave the engineering team from Toyota's Michigan R&D headquarters valuble information on what they need to change to make the iM rally ready.
They may have taken parts from other vehicles in Toyota’s lineup to build it. Maybe the exhaust was replaced with a sturdier one and suspension was changed out for a better set with improved handling and durability.
Driver/co-driver Colin Ravenscroft said that "At STPR we had issues with damage to the exhaust and other components from rocks and rough landings after jumps. With the changes we made, we didn't have any of those issues at Ojibwe."
Whatever they did, it proved to be effective because they placed third and they plan to race again at the Lake Superior Performance Rally (LSPR) in October.
