I know there are plenty of CAI discussions here. I am not into modding much, but I do care about getting at least stock performance from my car. I tried installing Purolator motor and cabin air filters. Well, they are terrible. I now have about 3 MPG drop, my acceleration is slower and my A/C is blowing about half the speed it used to. Purolator filters are too tight. I will be getting stock Denso/Toyota filters instead.

Toyota dealer wanted to charge me $70 per filter, $140 total with labor. I smiled and walked out. Retail price for Denso engine filter is $12-15, cabin Toyota filter is around $15-17 on Amazon.

Ya Purolator is pretty low grade.

I finally got both of my filters from the Amazon. I installed them yesterday. Wow! What a difference. My car drives normal again, A/C blows air again. Fuel economy and acceleration are back to normal.

One little surprise I ran into: AC Delco sells Denso filters under their namebrand. It probably comes from those days when Pontiac Vibe, which was a rebadged Toyota Matrix, was manufactured by GM, so Delco is selling the same air filters. They are OEM fit on our cars and they are made in the USA by Denso. It had the best price I could find, I paid $12.45 for it. Model ACDelco A3103C.

There are a few models of cabin filters that fit our car. I got OEM model 87139-YZZ20, it is pretty much the same as our OEM filter model 87139-52040. Both are available on Amazon for $17-$18.

Hi, Thanks for the info, I just was told I needed to change my engine filer as well so I'm replacing both filters. On Amazon, it states that the 87139-YZZ20 does not fit the 2016 Scion IM and I can't find the other part number on Amazon. Do you know why it's stating it doesn't fit?

Amazon is not always right. We have 2 cabin filters that fit our iM:

87139-YZZ20 and 87139-07020

If you are looking for engine filter, you need something else. I really like Upgr8 filter, it is cheaper than OEM, it definitely gives a little boost to acceleration and it is reusable.
