I have discovered that if I start off listening to the radio while diving then switch to bluetooth that the browse button isn't there to search through the music on my phone. Is this normal? If I start off with the bluetooth it will always be there then. It only seems to not be there after switching to the bluetooth after starting with the radio and driving for a while.

I think I figured it out now. It was trying to load pandora even though the app wasn't open. I found a setting in the app to prevent it from opening with the car and now it seems to be fine.

Blutooth Commands Fail

So here are the issues I'm having with the bluetooth system. I CAN receive a text, have it read back to me and CAN reply back via voice and send it. I CAN receive a call and CAN call someone. I CANNOT send out a new text to someone at all and I CANNOT tell the audio system to play any music, artist or station at all. However I've noticed if I grab my phone and hit the search button which activates Cortana and/or Siri on an iPhone and tell her to send a text to...or play an artist...it will do all of that fine. The audio system on the other hand gets a "call" from my phone then beeps to prompt these commands. If I go through the audio system it will say my device is busy or not responding. I have a Windows phone and I have tried this on an iPhone 5 and 5s. They have the exact same issues, which tells me it's not the phones but the audio system that needs an update. I called Scion and they were not much help stating that I needed to review my commands that are understood by the system in my owner's manual and that my phone wasn't compatible. Really? Are iPhones not popular? Please help!

I have an iPhone 6 and have read every manual there is. I have not received one text, and have checked and rechecked every setting in both my phone and the headunit. I gave up about a week ago. I have zero issues calling/receiving calls.

Messaging settings are a bit tricky on the iphone, but is doable. I have mines all set up and working, only that I received messages between startup and shutdown. You can't really look at your full history on the display. I'll create a guide for iphone users

Still no luck with this. I have spent most of this past weekend trying different phone formats and the phones I have tried do support SPP, such as the Blackberry Bold 9900 and a couple of Android phones. The BB actually was worse off than my Windows phone as far as how many commands it understands. So now I'm not certain that SPP is the issue nor am I sure who needs to do an update the phone manufacturer or Scion, or BOTH!? I'm surprised to see the lack of information on the internet and the lack of knowledge both car dealerships AND phone carriers have on this. No one has a clue how to make this work and no one has an update. Seriously, WTF!!!???

Yeah, you're just not going to get any good answer for specific stuff like this out of their live chat reps.

I couldn't even get wheel compatibility info out of any of their soc media teams. They forwarded me to the dealer, which didn't know better.

Not even the dealership I want it maintained at knew they could service Scions.

This is the kind of service quality I was getting from GM, I don't expect this from Toyota.

The radio's trash, can't be said enough. Sounds good, but everything else about it is just bad.

You might have better luck with getting in contact with some department higher up, calling them by whatever number can be found on the site should help. You can even try calling Toyota, maybe better luck with them.

That's extremely depressing. Pretty much kicked any confidence you have in a dealership to the curb at that point. :serious:

that has nothing to do with the radio, that's just the bluetooth communication protocols that your phone understands or doesn't. if you go into the bluetooth settings and into the connected device it will tell you which protocols your phone supports. my phone can't do voice control on music either, but my GF's S7 edge can. sorry to burst your scion shaming bubble, but it's just your iphone.
