Mono-spec iM will begin around $20,000, probably like $20,995 plus tax, tittle and assorted fripperies...

Well that will make it affordable to the young buyers they are going after, but I suspect not many will be getting the bare bones version.
At $20,000 it's priced well IMO.
It's a price that would have me seriously consider it, not that I haven't already, but looking from the 'outside' in, that's how it shapes up to be.
chances are they'll use it when they need it, like say when they need extra points to look good when compared to vehicles it competes with. I just hope we see that same engine make it's way into the iM sooner than later.
I wonder what is going to come standard on the iM and what will be offered as options. Is this $20k price something that includes most of the things that the average driver would want, or are you going to have to buy a few packages in order to make the car equipped the way you want it?
From what I have read and seen on other Toyotas coming through my dealership, I think the alloys, dual zone a/c, pioneer touchscreen with bluetooth, led lights, and backup camera will be standard. But I'm guessing you could upgrade through trd the springs, suspension, wheels, exhaust and intake. Maybe heated seats and remote start would be other options.

Considering the type of person they're trying to target, simple luxuries like heated seats should be included or be optional... i hope.
Heated seats does seem like a good option to offer people. I'm not sure if they will offer remote start, but its possible. I wouldn't get it if it was offered as an option. I'm sure there will be a few more options than just heated seats though.

I would look at remote start being up here in Iowa.

base hubcaps surely?
They say online that alloys are standard.
Remote start in a vehicle like this is a must. Even more so as Scion needs to include little wins in its products to win people over.

The average buyer will appreciate such conveniences.
I just always get in the car and then start it so I don't really have much desire for the remote start. Maybe I'll like it more once I try it out. I'd rather have heated seats.

Lol

It's not like you have any other option, how else would you start it?
Remote start whether you like it or not (not sure who wouldn't) will be in all vehicles.
I don't mind remote start at all but to be honest, the option for push-start or key start should be available. I feel this feature is definitely more of a preference and should not be fixed but the whole industry seems to be switching towards it. Soon after, they will make it fixed to the point where cars will be driving us. And the unnatural world continues..
Here is the features list from Scion.
