Ya, taking out the battery is much easier.

Tried to do it without removing the battery, bad idea

Sorry to wake an old thread

I'm new to the forums and just purchased an iM last month. I have already added the UpGr8 drop in filter to the car and was considering trying out this air intake mod that you guys used in the first page. I just had a few questions for you guys who are running this mod:

* Does removing the charcoal filter and the snorkel void warranty?
* Will I fail my inspection in a month and a half for smog?
* Do I have to worry about water getting into the air box once the snorkel is removed?
* How has it held up since you incorporated this mod? Has it had any con's or mostly pro's?

Thanks Guys. Excited to join the iM family!

1- Removing the Charcoal will not void any warranty

2- Removing the Charcoal might cause an issue in CA. (Don't live there so I am not up on all their SMOG laws)

3- You should not be concerned about water in the intake. It's plenty high enough.

Thanks for the reply Dave!

I suppose removing the snorkel won't do anything to the warranty either right?

I believe when I'm thinking of smog I'm confusing it with the emissions that they like to test us for here in North Carolina. Rookie here, but I'm not sure if they're technically the same thing or not.

How has your intake mod held up for you?

Not sure what North Carolina's tests are like, but most states you will be fine without it. I tore mine out, but I'm sure if you are clever and careful you can take the carbon filter out in a way that you could put it back in for testing.

The snorkel delete is a nice simple mod that I ran with for about 4 months before going with an open intake. Just be realistic in your expectations, an intake at its best will gain you 10 HP.

So how is the upgr8 filter for $16? Is it any better than stock OEM filter? Do you feel any acceleration gain/mileage improvement?
