Rough Riding?

I sat in a iM today. The front seat is very comfortable. The car is easy to get in and out of.My big worry is the tires, there are no sidewalls to speak of. I will be coming from a 2001 Subaru Forester with tires that have big side walls. My question to you guys ,is the iM rough riding because of the narrow sidewalls?

hey bob have you had a chance to take one for a ride yet? It's a difficult question to answer because whats good for me or for them might not be good for you and vise versa of course...

But welcome to the boards!!

I mean I don't think the iM is attempting to be "rough riding" really. I don't really think that they are any worse than tires that you would find on many comparable vehicles.

It's a common problem with a lot of cars these days. Most automakers have succumbed to the fad that bigger wheels (and hence lower-profile tires) are necessary. Not long ago, 15" was the norm on most economy cars (14" on some) with 16" as the premium upgrade. Now 16" is often the base wheel, with 17" or 18" as the upgrade. It's ridiculous. Car and Driver even called the base 16" wheels on the new Mazda CX-3 laughably small--it shows you how the narrow-minded views of automotive "experts" are encouraging automakers to do things that are bad for most consumers. I'd much rather the iM came with 16" wheels standard, with 17" or 18" available as a dealer upgrade. Oh, well!

It rides like a last gen Golf. That's all you need to know. The new, MQB based generation is postively absurd (smooth, solid).

Garage
I've driven cars on all kinds of tires from BF Goodrich A/Ts with the extra large side wall, Firestone Firehawks with a medium size side wall, and now the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus with the small side wall and I have to say the Proxes ride pretty good. It feels like the car is gliding to me, thats honestly the only way I can explain it.

Check out my garage for info on my 2016 Scion iM black sand pearl "
