Why is it that we never have anything good. I email a manufacturer about the window visors and they didn't if/when they would come out with them but in Australia its a factory option. They have racks too.
Nothing really made with the Scion iM in mind but there are a log of basic ones that should fit. Never installed roof racks so I wouldn't know how it affects paint.
I think the Toyota Auris has been out for some time already and with that being said there might just be something out there for the Auris that we can use.
@Sfactor
yes, exactly like that but i feel like i shouldve elaborated a bit. what i meant is that toyota doesnt offer that but its what i would like if there was one.
Also in for hearing this, about the whispbar specifically, don't like the one with a chrome/shiny finish, wouldn't like to know how that finish will hold up over time.
no racks yet. I emailed scion again and asked why they sell racks in japan and not here and they just said they don't know if/when they will sell them here. same goes for the window visors.
I know it's weird, especially when it's one of those things that should be linear from market to market, doubt they'll need time to make changes. Only thing I can imagine is a supply issue. But of course it's not like they'll tell us that.
They were announced when the car was unveiled. I guess the official ones will come later.
Honestly, just go on Thule's UK or Auz site and check what parts you need for the 5 door Auris. These parts will be available in North America. Installation will be the same. Don't understand why no one's mentioned this yet. It's what I intend to do, personally.
I just received My Inno rack yesterday. They're assembled and sitting in my living room right now. I'll be installing them on the car tomorrow. Didn't have time before it got dark out today. I'll take some pictures and post them when I've got them installed.
So I got the Inno Aerorack installed. It looks good on the car and feels like it's part of the car. I haven't had a chance to install my snowboard carriers yet. But as is the rack is very quiet at highway speeds. Attached some pics.
Is it possible to put the back rack further back? Or is the clamping arm not long enough? They look great but I would like them a little further apart if I get some.
I'm sure you could mount it further back if you wanted. I just followed the instructions and used the little measuring tape that came with the kit. I would be a little worried about the antenna if you have the rack set too far back depending on what you carry in it.
If they're anything like the Yakimas I have on my xB, you can put them anywhere within the door frame. So yes, you could slide the rear one back a little more. Just might need them at a certain spot to attach the snowboard/bike/cargo basket carriers.
With spring coming up and biking season starting, I bit the bullet and ordered the Thule aeroblade kit from a UK supplier made for the 5 door Auris along with two bike racks. Total was 380 pounds with shipping. I'll let you all know if there are any compatibility problems here.
Couldn't wait for Thule to get off its ass. It's taking them way too long to find equivalent parts (they use different skus in NA for whatever reason) in their repertoire. Should have it late next week or after. Dunno if I'll have it installed by then.
This is my first roof rack. Hoping it's a worthwhile purchase.
Took an hour and a half to get the rack set up and the bike racks ready for mounting.
Yeah, if you're getting turned off by the import price, just know that I had two bike mounts on that order. It's pretty cheap otherwise. I've been asking myself why I even imported those since they're available locally anyway but I guess I wasn't thinking when I was ordering.
Confirmed something for you guys: the regular North America Corolla fitment kits also work on the iM, instructions are the same and parts are the same. No need to import, just get a Corolla kit!
My kit mentioned it was made for both the Auris and Corolla and their Corolla is essentially ours with different bumpers. And light clusters. Verified the bits and it's all the same, only with different part numbers.
After debating about shelling out alot of money for an inno rack for the im, i ordered one off a UK site (micksgarage) for a fraction of the price. It was fit for the 2013 Arius 5 door hatch and made by La Prealpina, an Italian manufacturer. The total was $160, including shipping, for aero bars and a fit kit. It came from Ireland to Ohio in exactly 1 week, free shipping, which was really impressive. It went on quick, looks great, and has locks too. Even better it has the t rails and fits all of my old rack components. If your thinking about a rack, dont spend 300+ on the inno, order this and you will be very pleased.
I've been failing to adapt my yakima q-tower rack to this car, their site is no help. IF I buy the q clips I need (though I'm not sure which ones) it's already $80, may just look into this instead ! Kayaking season is here.
